You have to really think about: "OK, what is going to work best within the season?" We're already renewed through season four and I think everyone hopes there will be more, but thinking about the whole thing, because you do have more characters. With any book, there's always going to be more than you could put into a show.
It means things are going great if people are split, and the creators of the show chose to emphasize a slightly different aspect of the many relationships that occur within the story.
